Focus on this seizure!
Focal seizures
So, what”s going on here? This is a part of my disease but I have not shared with anybody besides my wife. I did a brief post on Facebook about it, this is just a follow-up blog to explain it more. Consider yourselves lucky you get this level of insight. I apologize for the portrait mode video! 🙂
This occurred on 24th January 2019.
This is called a focal seizure or (partial seizure) full awareness.
A lot of people have asked me what it’s like, so I will attempt to answer some questions here.
- Does it hurt?
- Not really. Sometimes it can though!
- Do I know when they are coming on?
- Yea you get this odd sensation wherever it’s about to strike. I can’t really explain it sorry.
- Can you talk while it’s happening?
- Yes! I can carry on a full conversation while it’s happening.
- Are there any drugs that help?
- Since they started happening in April of 2017 they have had me on the following drugs:
- Keppra
- Dexamethasone
- After the last seizure they put me on an additional drug that I forgot the name of. I we’ll update this post when I remember.
- I remember now: it’s a drug called Clobazam.
- Since they started happening in April of 2017 they have had me on the following drugs:
- How long does it last?
- Hehe, about 3 minutes.
- Where does it affect you?
- They used to be mostly in my right leg, but now it’s my right arm.
- Sometimes it’s my lower arm, sometimes it’s my shoulder, and sometimes it’s my wrist. I really hate when it affects my wrist as you literally can’t use that hand for hours after.
- Are you holding your hand with your other hand?
- Why yes I am! If I don’t do that then my entire arm will flail everywhere and I might hurt myself.
- What does it feel like after?
- After there is a lot of weakness in the affected area. Some numbness too!
- So what’s next?
- I have an MRI scheduled for February 14th at 12:50 a.m. Yes am!
- I get the results on Friday afternoon.
- Was there anything different this time?
- Yes I’ve had these seizures before last year. But this time it feels different and it’s actually scaring me a lot!
I’m expecting the worst. That’s why I need you guys more than ever now.
I just want to reiterate that you guys are amazing!
-Ya boy
PS. if anyone comes across typos feel free to let me know! I promise I won’t be offended.
Special thanks to Cheryl for asking most of the questions I answered in this post!
I was recently diagnosed with partial seizures. This is really all new to me. A few days ago I began experiencing a painful really bad cramp in my right thigh. I usually get these partial seizures affecting the right side of my head. Just wondering if these cramps in my thigh are connected.
You really need to talk to your doctor. I am not qualified to give that kind of advice.
